  • Marketmore cukes and Ailsa Craig toms.

I'm growing a couple of Marketmore. One is outside, the other is in the GH. Both are doing well and the first little cukes are showing. The thing is, I thought they sprawled about. Mine are growing straight up with little evidence of any productive side shoots. All the cukes at present are sprouting from the main central stem itself. Both cukes are displaying this behaviour. Could they have possibly packed the cuke seed wrongly and I've ended up with something different?

I was thinking about the same with my Ailsa Craigs. I bought these as plants, and to me they are anything but Ailsa Craigs. The plants main stems are all gnarly, but very healthy. The flowers were much like the Mega blooms which Mally talked about. Only 5 or 6 to a truss. Lots of resulting fruit all shapes and sizes. Some really ugly ones. Some very like Marmande. Wrongly labelled plants or just copped for a couple cross pollinated examples?

My experience is that marketmore only branch a bit, with a good deal of fruit on the main stem.

Not sure about your ailsa craigs, but 5 or 6 to a truss sounds about right.
