There are so many sayings that you could have quoted - I'm worried that you chose those two
Has someone just said them to you

Lots of meaning to saying here :-

          As daft as a brush

me I've always liked 'Mad as a hatter' ever since I read Alice in wonderland as a kid.

Now I know mad as a hatter, thats because Miliners used mercury to stiffen hats.

I like the one about not stepping into arguments, think it's polish in origin

                My dads favourite saying was
" Women have many faults, but men have only two, everything they say, and everything they do!"
Dogs have masters, cats have slaves, and horses are just wonderful

I rather like the extremely non-pc,

                  "A dog, a wife, a walnut tree
The more you beat them the better they be".

"Daft as a brush" although not the origin the saying was popularised as the catch phrase of comedian Ken Platt (how many people remember him?)

Someone once said to me in reference to her OH cooking the tea for a change "It's not like he pulled the Pope from quicksand......"

A Jewish saying...it's been in my head as long as I can remember and seems apt in so many situations - 'When six doctors tell you that you're ill, you lie down.'

Think she's mixed the following up?

'A whistling woman and a crowing hen
Are neither use to God nor men'
                              And
'A rolling stone gathers no moss'
