    sour crop

    One of my chucks stopped laying about a week ago, but as all seemed happy It was impossible to discover which one was not laying so I put it down to one resting but have been keeping an eye on them. Anyway, yesterday I noticed that one of the chucks was stood on her own hunched and looking sorry for herself, so I separated her from the others just as a precaution against disease. I noticed she was not eating or drinking so out came a syringe and water was administered a little later I noticed what looked like yokey vomit so decided to check her crop as I massaged it she began to vomit up a bad smelling liquid and her crop seemed to be filling up with more liquid and after some research came across sour crop as the likely problem she is still issolated from the others and being monitored I have introduced some baking powder in water to counter the acid and sofened her food I check her every few hours as my family wont touch the chucks, i'm hopping she pulls through if not I suppose the pot is an option.

    What would other suggest to help her through this?

    Well, managing to get her to vomit in the first place is a good sign, a drop of olive oil, massage and try every day until it's clear. Water and bs is good but you should clear her crop before she eats or offer yoghurt. Good link here - read brambles post Re: using oral daktarin - I've never tried it, so I can't give help on that but it's worth a shot.

      My sense of humor. Nor would I just trying to make light of the situation.

        Sorry...you never can tell if it's a joke or not.
        I'd try once a day, hoping some comes up each time if her crop still feels full. Though you don't want to stress her either.

          Well managed to get more Olive Oil in her and she happily drank the water at the moment her crop feels empty so I will check her again in the morning and turn her upside down she is looking brighter tonight lets hope it's a brighter i'm feeling better and not a brighter before going south.

            The wife is worried that where we have her at the moment could attract rats as she is in a lean too where we found a dead rat a few weeks back after the dog dispatched it.

            Would you still leave her there or put her back with the others overnight then put her back in the lean too the next day?

              I think if her crop is empty she will be happier with the others, she's obviously not got anything contagious. Sounds like she is on the mend

              Evenings are always the best time to put them back in too!

                  Chuck seems a lot brighter today segregated her this morning with some food and water her crop was empty. This evening she is alot steadier and crop is full as she went back in with the other chucks so i will keep an eye on her over the next few days.

                  Thanks for the advice on this.
