    Hello everyone,

Unfortunately we’ve been through a spout of ill will, negative comments and unnecessary attacks I think you’ll agree. This does not reflect the Grapevine or the years of hard work put in by thousands of members past and present.

The Grapevine has a reputation of being an energetic, engaging community with unrivaled gardening and growing advice. This is the reputation we will strive to keep under any circumstance. As a result we will be taking more serious action against users that break our rules, especially around bullying which everyone will agree adds no value to anyone and just stirs up anger and frustration against those very users that do contribute, do help users and are the part of the community.

In the interests of sorting the issue quickly, we will see permanent and temporary banning coming in to place against users who break the rules regardless of post count and history on the Grapevine.

I hope you will support us (the admin team) and the amazing Moderators as you always have done so. Everything we are doing is in the best interest of the community because without it we have nothing.

Lastly I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you. Thank you for the effort you put in. Thank you for the high quality posts you make day in and day out. Thank you for being so tolerant over this period. Thank you .

    Dave

Thanks for the update Dave. Good to see that a firm hand will be taken against this sort of thing. There will always be the inadvertant slip up, misjudged post or misinterpretation from people, that's the hazards of a forum but it's very encouraging that changes will be brought in towards dealing with intentionally aggressive postings, and persistant ill will. I have every confidence the moderators here will apply their powers judiciously and fairly in accordance with the circumstances at the time, and would like to say thank you to all the mods and admin for their efforts during a difficult phase. Looking forward to it all getting happy and smiley again

The last thing we want as a community, either online or on our allotments, is bad feeling, accusations and critisism to get out of hand.

I for one will support a 'hardening' of attitude against posters who are aggressive, inflamatory or downright rude.

We are all adults, it's just a shame that sometimes some of us forget that.

Saw the title to this thread and my heart sank as I thought somebody had started yet another thread to discuss the same things and that it would take the same path as others - should learnt to read properly though as it actually turned out to be a helpful post by admin! The idea of sin binning is particularly good I feel.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Great stuff Dave and I for one echo the sentiment of AIC's comments. In addition I am in total support of the mods and thank them in advance for delivering fairness and firmness.

Maybe you could issue one of these is it gets a little close to the mark!

I am glad to read this, Dave, and I hope it will help deal with the issues- the mods really have had to deal with a lot recently.

If not, may I respectfully suggest the Naughty Step (That was a lighthearted comment by the way )

              Hi Dave,

Nice to see and I hope it helps your forum.

Tbh as a newbie to this site I've been put off by the petty nastiness and wrangles in some of the threads so I'd rather see how it pans out first. I only really come on here for veg info now.

Sounds like a good and positive plan Dave, and reflects what has been posted in many recent posts.

I'm a great believer in democracy and free speech. I believe everyone should be able to make their point (assuming its relevant to the thread in hand) but they should make it in a polite, dignified and respectful way. Indeed, there is no excuse not to.

We're all different. We aren't going to agree on everything - life would be pretty boring if we did!
Hearing a different point of view is a good thing. It helps you to learn and to understand people better.

I've always found this forum to be very friendly. Lots of good people here, always ready to help others.
That's what defines the forum for me.
Pain is still pain, suffering is still suffering, regardless of whoever, or whatever, is the victim.
                    Everything is worthy of kindness.

I think we all agree that's the target KoA, it just sometimes goes adrift.

I was a little suprised to see this drop off the radar yesterday as the threads grew. Is there not a way to keep on top of the pile? It has only been viewed by 470 grapes
