I love all lillies but I am terrified of growing them with all the moggies around here and I (from sad experience) am convinced there is an army of lily beetles hiding out in my garden somewhere just waiting to pounce on my poor lillies.

The tallest of my skyscraper lillies have started to bud, and so has the cactus dahlias and cardoon, so there should be a great display starting soon, and the shorter lillies will hopefully bud later extending the flowering period. My daylillies (not true lillies) just look like tufts of grass at the moment, but there's plenty of time for them yet. I tend to be a little behind many others here due to location and aspect, but I'll be catching up soon enough

BTW, yours look great, and welcome to the forum

My lilies are looking gorgeous, and thanks to this forum I have been on the lookout for the dreaded lily beetle! Have removed three before they managed to bore into the new buds......didn't know what they were before, thought they were very pretty until I saw the devastation they caused!

Don't worry about cats, I've always had a cat and they don't go near them, as for the dreaded nettle, I just look daily for the little buggers and I have a bucket of water on hand to drop them in to, or I introduce them to my foot!! To be honest they've had a boost from the fish poo out of my aquarium filter, they love it as you can see!! The best one is a scarlet with 28 buds on 1 stem, I didn't put a picture because it's down facing flower......

Lily beetle have always been a major pest for me, but this year I have sprayed with Beyer Provado systemic. It really has done the job.
None flowering as yet, but the buds look well.
                      Here's some from last year.

Oooh! Thanks for the fantastic info Brownfingers. I will definitely try Beyer Provado. I think I hate lily beetles as much as vine weevils, slugs and snails.
