  • Mowing.

I was thumbing through an old magazine and found an article about lawns and how to prevent the dreaded brown patches. It recommended not to mow lower than 4cm. Seems a bit high to me. In fact my old cylinder push-me-pull-you would have trouble trying to mow it at that length. Do you think it was a misprint?

We leave our grass quite long in the summer as it's usually under a fair bit of stress if it doesn't rain. Ours is possibly longer than 4cm in the summer less in spring when we have a little more rain and less sun. Our garden is South facing and gets a fair bit of use with the kids.

Mowing too short encourages moss too doesn't it...and makes it look pants in the middle of a very hot summer!

Nope- it's not a misprint...ours is cut to about 4/5cm depending on the time of year as Scarlet says.

I'd like to leave mine that long to discourage the moss but my mower won't cut higher than about 2 1/2cm.

        Endless wonder.
