  • Lost the lot

New plot holders next to me decided to spray the weeds on their plot yesterday and never considered wind drift. 80% of my brasicas affected and remaining plants showing signs. Comming up now, not so appetising for some reason.

Not mad, just really frustrated, we all have to learn, but a bitter pill to swallow when when the fruits of your labour are affected.

Their have apologised and offered to pay for replacements but I cant take their money. Only a young couple and doing what they thought was right. Silly thing is I ended up strimming the weeds for them.

I think new allotmenteers should have to attend a basic course on the do's and don'ts, thats because its today it was not that long ago I knew nothing. I could have lost it but whats the point.

All said and done it was just a few plants......just needed to get it off my chest

Really sorry GL. So much effort for no reward.

Thanks VC, looking at it at it philosophically I had not prepared the beds too well, so chances are they might not have come to much anyway.

That is horrible greenleaves. I'm a big user of roundup where needed but I wait until conditions are perfect. I would take their offer of replacements....it'll cost a lot for you to replace them and don't forget, it's still very early in the season so lots can be sown or planted.

            Good luck

So Sorry to hear that Greenleaves but so good of you to be philosophical. We all have to learn somehow, and experience is the best teacher. Well done you, for helping this young couple learn an important lesson without resentment.

I just hope the young couple learn a lot from the experience. I admire your outlook towards it and them. It's the only way, a philosophical attitude, but I admire the way you've taken it on board.
As Andy J says, it's early enough in the season and hopefully things can be replaced.

It wasn't a malicious act on their part, just lack of experience, hence why I couldn't take the money. I am a great believer that anyone can make a mistake and I dont know their financial position.

They have learnt a lesson albeit an embarrassing one for them. As I said to them its happened, nothing anyone can do to change it....tomorrow's another day

At least they've realised the outcome of their actions not like when people do things which have a negative impact on somebody else and don't even notice or in some cases care when it's pointed out to them. Good on you for not ranting at them, hopefully you'll have very good lottie neighbours from now onwards.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Congratulations on your attitude to this, you are obviously a very nice and caring person and that's worth a lot more than a few cabbages.

It depends on how much you like cabbage Bill.

I'm proud of you GL, it's most likely what I would have done but your suggestion of an induction is a great idea especially for first time growers. You need to put it to the committee.
