  • Help! Trying to find a particular seed

    Hi!
I'm new to this forum but I need some help
I enjoy growing my own fruit and veg both in my back garden and on my newly acquired small holding all the way in Northern Spain
Now, there is a particular bean which is very popular over there called fabes... I would love to have a go at growing these in my green house back here in the UK but cant find the seeds any where back home. Dies anyone have any idea where I might be successful looking for them, I don't mind driving miles to get them or buying them mail order
Any help you be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks
    Sam

I think you would be wise to buy a packet of seeds when you are out in Spain! Just to clarify, I think fabes is the plural of faba and as far as I can tell, these are broad beans in the UK. So there a quite a few hardy varieties you can grow in the garden
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Were they green Sam? If so Nicos and Jeanie have nailed it: you're looking at fava beans, or broad beans here in Blighty. And any seed supplier sells a number of varieties. I grow 'The Sutton' because it's not too tall and produces lots of beans.

Maybe they can be grown from a bag of dried beans?

                      Hi All :-)
Faba (singular) or Fabe (plural) is the one, it is also called fabes de la granja.
Was meaning to pick up a pack of seeds whilst I was in Spain but never got round to it (got back yesterday!)... Was why I was trying to find a supplier in the UK :-)
The stew they are commonly found in is called Fabada... Its really nice and gave me the idea of growing them on my smallholding back in Spain... just wanted the challenge of attempting to grow them back here as the range of fruit and veg I'm growing at the minute is more traditional British stuff :-)
                      Cheers
                      Sam
