  • bitter honey berries

My honeyberry bushes have fruited but taste like a g&t in a berry.ugh. should they sweeten up if I leave a bit longer, it's not a huge crop but I was looking forward to adding them to a dessert or jam.

What colour were they inside? If they were green they were not ripe. They should be purpley red inside.

And here is a quote from Wiki:
"The fruit of blue-berried honeysuckle have been described as similar to raspberries, blueberries, black currants, or saskatoon berries. Bad ones can taste grassy or bitter (like tonic water)"
    Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
    Endless wonder.

To be honest, they taste sharp - regardless of what stuff is written about them. I've two bushes - one in a pot and one in the ground, both taste the same.

Not that keen on them personally.
