  • placement of outdoor cukes?

I intend to grow an outdoor cuke in a big pot, but am debating the best placement. Would it be best grown up a trellis on a northwest facing wall, or up against a gate which faces southwest, or notheast, depending on which side of the gate you are standing? I think the gate may be favourite as the cuke will get sun almost all of the day. To the front of the plant in the morning, and through the gate from behind in the afternoon, wheras on the wall, it would only receive afternoon sun. That's surmising we get any sun this year. What's the verdict people?

Definitely to the South especially if it's a variety that needs to be grown under cover.

Presumably you don't need to open the gate.

No, it's no longer used. It's quite a big one about 4' high and 8' wide, so theres plenty of room to tuie a cuke to.

Now realising I should have planted my cucs where I've put the artichokes and peas - oh well, next year...
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?
