    corn

    When corn comes through as a seedling is it ok for it to be a bit bent or twisted?

    out of about 20 seeds about 4 has come through but 2 are not straight, they are about 6-9 inches is they were straightened out.

    Will they straighten out or should I use some bamboo?
    They are leaning on a fence.

    I think they will straighten up and strengthen with time and sun, (at least yours have grown)!

      Yeah Im quite shocked myself. Its the first time Ive grown them and only sown them to see if anything would come through. Quite chuffed they have as I love corn.

        I dunno Jen, four out of twenty and they're bent? I'd get a fresh packet and sow into modules for planting out in june. I sow twice as many seeds as I need then choose the best 50%.

          Just found the varieties that can be grown in the uk if anyone is interested, Some you can get off ebay.


          Varieties
          ‘Lark’ AGM: (Extra tender sweet) Early and high yielding with sweet, tender, top quality cobs

          ‘Earlibird' AGM: (Supersweet) 2nd early. Vigorous plants with good sized, uniform cobs

          ‘Golden Giant’ AGM: (Supersweet) A vigorous main crop with large, good quality cobs.

          Sweetcorn ‘Swift’ F1: (Extra tender sweet) One of the best varieties to choose for growing your own sweetcorn in the UK. Plenty of cobs.

            There's loads of varieties you can grow in the UK, any of the seed catalogues are probably your best start point although you'd be better with plants from the garden centre now for this year.
