  • Cinnamon to stop damping off??

Anyone trying this or tried it?

I know I'm not the only one who has had problems with damping off this year.

I was reading up about the use of cinnamon by sprinkling it on seedlings or mixing it in the compost to either prevent the fungi getting any worse or preventing it all together.
I for one would be up for this natural method, less chemicals on my food less chemicals in me

I'm after peoples previous experiences using this method or what others think.

    Thanks guys
    Jen

Cinnamon is supposed to have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties, so it should work. Be interesting to know if anyone on the vine has tried it or regularly uses it.

I've just been reading about the health benefits of cinnamon.

    Endless wonder.

I'm sure when watching "The Allotment Challenge" on tv, one of the contestants said they used cinnamon to stop damping off. I say give it a go, and let us know the results.

I've read about gardeners using it on overseas forums with good reports, I think mainly sprinkled on the surface of the compost at sowing time as a preventative. I've not tried it myself, but would give it a go.

I'm a newbie to gardening. My first seeds suffered from damping off, so I did some research and started using camomile tea. If you make a cup of camomile tea and water it down, you can spray it on the seedlings instead of using plain water. It seems to be working so far.

Last year I had a lot of damping off, probably because I never wash my pots. I sprinkled cinnamon around the stem and potted deeper, so the soil covered the area which was rotting. The plants generally recovered. This year I had older plants that seemed to be suffering and I did the same minus the cinnamon. The plants generally recovered. So take from that what you will.

Might be time to start washing your pots

It certainly didn't do them any harm.
