  • CCTV on site

On iPad so can't get access to the whole website. Have any allotment sites on here had cctv systems installed, and which kit? We are considering it at the moment. There used to be one and there are some cameras up, thought not fixed to anything. We have the ideal place for one, and electrical power, and sorely need something.

    Any thoughts/views? Thanks.

Swann come well recommended, we have one at home. They also do battery operated ("Outback") cams which I have in my back garden for spying on wildlife

I'm on an iPad and can get the full website. I don't use the app, mainly as it's a work iPad, and just go in via Safari. Can't help about CCTV I'm afraid. Our neighbour has one trained on our shared drive, talk about under surveillance !

We have ours pointing downwards which doesn't give us the best view, but does mean it's not spying on our neighbours.
you'll be glad of it if it catches someone damaging your property. Since we got ours up, the monthly car vandalism has ceased, and we've caught 7 young lads breaking branches off our camellia

He uses it to spy on cars parked perfectly legally outside his house so he can whip out and put a nasty note on them.
Fortunately no vandalism in the 24 years we've lived here, but I suppose there is always a first. I just dislike being watched every time I step out of the house.
          Very useful for allotments though!

Ours cover our own land. We had them because of the yobbish behaviour that meant we had guttering ripped off the garage, mud slung at the house, various petty bits of damage done. Wheel bins nicked and thrown on the bonfire they burnt next doors fencing on.

One of the lads who used to be a PITA came round a few years later to ask if our cameras had caught the person who had pinched his bike. It hadn't, it really was there for protecting our property.

I believe their is legislation that might cause you an issue as its a public place (assumption on my part). People who view monitor the images have to be licensed to do so.

I may stand corrected but I believe cctv is covered under the data protection act if people can be identified. I might be wrong and have no personal view just trying to high lite potential issues

Greensleeves, when we first had greenhouse damage (another reason we want the cctv, had 5 panes broken in recent weeks by somebody lobbing in wine bottles), they even enquired if we had it, thereby suggesting we should consider that option! We did have a system some years ago, still have a camera up, I have the manual ( as Treasurer I've inherited a lot of paperwork), but we can't get hold of the person who originally installed it.

I will look into it through. I want the police to return so will discuss it. Thanks for the heads up.

we have CCTV on our site, all motion controlled cameras, once triggered they record for ten minutes, the local police even asked if one could be adjusted so it covered a bit of an adjacent pathway which was used be a local flasher to try to catch him in the act.

having said that, we used to get sheds/fences vandalised every school holiday, but since the cameras have been in place - nothing (touch wood)
