I just read a thread by gardening gal about potatoes that had been missplaced and how they were a bit shriveled but had some chits on them. I bought some potatoes at a garden center in February, these potatoes were for consumption not seed potatoes but as they were a variety that I wanted to grow I put some aside to chit and then plant, as I am still waiting for the to chit I am wondering what is sprayed on the to hold them back, and how can this be healthy

They may have something on them but it's also worth noting that some varieties don't produce much in the way of chits (heaven only knows how they grow but they do), my PFA for example don't chit much but produce an excellent crop.
