Welcome to the Vine. I am no plum expert but it may be helpful for anyone else offering you advice if you add your location to your profile and perhaps add a little to your post about where the tree is to go, soil conditions etc.

Hello Gulliver, welcome to the vine! I don't know much about fruit trees so I can't help much either but we do have a few experts that pop in often! As Wendy said if you give your location and growing condition/soil etc it will help them with their advice.
Although I did g@@gle and that particular variety is self-sterile and needs a pollination partner. Do you know if there are any damson, gage or plum trees nearby?

I have Coe's Golden Drop. planted three years ago. Lots of flowers this year and now a fair crop of plumlets . . I've wanted to plant a tree and taste the fruit for twenty-five years so its quite exciting. apparently a light cropper, its in a row of six gages so I should end up with enough plums. I'd suggest you keep the new tree far away from the site where the Victoria died

I have plum trees, cherry trees, pear trees ,and apple trees all around me, i just do not know why my plum died we had stacks of fruit last year but it has given up , i feed with chicken muck, potash. keep it watered, i live in the most easterly town on the map but that should make no difference my neighbours tree is full

Often Victoria plums will be laden down with fruit the year before they peg out - their swan song, I guess. Great opportunity to plant something more unique.
