  • Rocket Lettuce Bolting??

    Hi Guys,
    Is this a flower stem?

It's the first time I've grown rocket and the long stalk reminded me of the stalk that came out of the lettuce I did last year.

Yes, its a flower stem!! Rocket soon bolts in the warmth. I leave mine to flower and collect the seeds or let it selfseed .
You can eat the flowers too

Thanks VC, would It have been better to remove it from the greenhouse at an earlier stage? and if so when should that have been?

So I guess I should move the other rockets and lettuces outside??

Nip the flower stem out and keep eating the leaves. Once they've bolted thats really an end to the leaves as they become small and straggly.
Put your next sowings outdoors and keep up a succession of seedlings for continuity.

            Excellent advice.

Now, I appreciate that rocket is not to everybody's taste ... Though you get used to it. (I didn't like it at the first go, but now i love it.) But golly gosh, if you want a reliable 'no brainer' organic salad vegetable to grow, rocket is the one.

You need to be canny with the sowing though, so you have a ready supply coming along and not all at once.

            Such an underrated vegetable!!!!

Yes, neither of them likes the warmth, they do much better kept on the cooler side.
Provide shade if you can, by planting them amongst taller plants
