    hi all

in my haste and excitement in sowing some salads i just got "stuck in " and scattered some spinch, rocket and mixed salad seeds in a 2ft container "in sections" i.e it has the density of cress you by in the shops. they have all sprouted well but will they grow fine or should i take out the smaller seedlings to give them more space . thanks for reading

I would thin them out and eat the thinnings. They won't grow to full size crammed in like that but you'll be able to take off a few leaves here and there and leave the others for later. Some you may be able to treat as cut and come again.
        ETA oh and welcome

          Thanks nicos

          Shadylane thanks
should the spacing be one seedling every 3 to 4 cm or similar . If so I have a lot of picking out to be getting on with. Lol

It really depends on whether you want fully grown plants or just want to pick leaves. You could prick a few out and pot them on/plant out although they may sulk. Or you could just thin them as you eat them. Pick a few to eat leaving space for the rest to grow. That's what I'd do.

It should be the size of a grown lettuce, if that's what you're growing.

They need space just like any other plant . . . I sowed some Suttons Mixed lettuce in a 40 cell tray with one seed to a cell with some cells having 2 seeds per cell by accident. Now I have 40 nice strong healthy plants almost ready to plant out at the allotment, they are the best looking lettuce I have ever grown. Admittedly I've not grow many over the years but I'm really happy with these

Raptor I sowed lettuce in cell trays this year for the first time, and now they're outside (at last) they've really perked up and are looking great. Good luck with yours.
Is there anything that isn't made better by half an hour pottering in the veg patch?

Seedlings all thinned out. Georgia the tortoise loved them. Will see how they develop from here on. Thanks for the advice.
