Hi all and thank you for your replies, just thought I'd explain a little more on my situation... All my veg is planted at the sunniest area in the garden but during the hottest part of the day between 1200 - 1400 a tree blocks the sun out, is this bad for the veg?

Hello and welcome from me down here.
My neighbour has a whopping oak that shades my veg plot from about 3pm onwards which is not ideal. I just try to keep the real sun lovers at the other end.
                      Enjoy the Vine :-)

Welcome David. Um, did you say mean you have "planted tomato plants & cucumbers" or did you mean you sowed the seed. Bit early for toms to be outside I think.

Hi sanjib, yes everything that I have planted is already plants. The tomatoes I planted were alreadyabout 15 - 20 cm tall.... This is my first time and I'm not sure how well anything is going to turn out lol.... I built the raised bed as we have ALOT of clay in our soil, I filled it with a multipurpose compost and farm grade manure. I'm hoping this will help but we will see!!

Tomatoes really need warmth, and although we're getting the odd sunny day, nights are still pretty nippy

You may need to buy some more ~ don't be set back if you lose these ones

Thanks for the advice, sadly I don't have the space for a green house yet...
