eBay. I buy a "bundle" each time I run out (every 3 or 4 years). Quite a lot in a bundle, but it seems to work out cheapest to buy & store what I don't need immediately.Originally posted by alldigging View Post

Buy showy yellow-groove bamboo Phyllostachys aureosulcata f. 'spectabilis': Delivery by Crocus.co.uk
This is one I've found - if it's be happy in my front garden then it's just the price that's the obstacle!
Position: full sun or partial shade
For this year it might have to be ebay - I think the prices get more sensible if you buy 150. I know I can't use that many though - but yes I will let you know Andy!

I have several Bamboo plants, only been in a couple of years, but some were bought as big clumps. I'm not sure how useful they are going to be as a source of canes though ... time will tell ... I like looking at them, rather than harvesting them! I do like the ones like P. spectabilis that you mention - I used to look at Bamboo as "Canes" but now I have several (all "poncy" varietiesOriginally posted by alldigging View Post

Price is definitely an issue - they tend to be £30-50 a plant. I don't know why as I would be happy to buy smaller plants and grow-on, but the only ones available are in relatively large pots which are a couple of years older, and a lot more weight to "ship". I have bought some clumps off eBay where they had outgrown containers / people's gardens. Got them for similar price, so got a bigger plant for the same money.
Sadly I can easily use that many ... 100 Sweetpeas (grown as cordons), 20 cordon Tomatoes, probably another 50 for my Climbing French and Runners and loads of odds&sods besides - although most of those needs shorter canes, so will make do with older ones that are now shorter as the bottom bit has rotted away... if you buy 150. I buy mine from amazon, bundle of 50 thick (like me) for £26. I cut a number of them in half for broad beans etcComment

Have seen some from the garden centre in Rochdale. They're not bad and 6 for £1.99

Good idea! A clump looks better if thinned - so they might well be happy that you take away the thinnings (I guess you might have to provide labour tooOriginally posted by alldigging View Post )
