  • Too late for Pentland Javelin?

    Hi Everyone

I picked up some Pentland Javelin seeds on Saturday for 50p. They had long white shoots on them which I have taken off. Since then I've left them near the kitchen window and just noticed they're starting to new green shoots. Is it too late for them? Should I leave them to chit a bit longer then plant them?

    Thanks

Just get them in the ground. Chitting is only really a benefit when it's too cold to plant out, if you think about it the volunteers aren't chitted and seem to do remarkably well.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Yes, go for it. They may not be 'first earlies', but they'll serve you well. A reliable cropper.

I remember buying a similar packet in the reduced to clear basket at Woolworths years ago. Long, gangly shoots coming out at all angles. Father said they'd never grow. Dug a trench, put them in. Never watered them. Never rounded them up....

The best crop of potatoes I've ever had!!!!

Pentland Javelin are a first early not as fast as some so they will need about 12 weeks in the ground, as the others have said the sooner the better.
