I've got two compost bins/pallet squares should I just put some in there now and again till it rots down. I've heard it takes 6 months or more.

Yes, I add it in layers of chicken stuff and then layers of other stuff (weeds and veg waste)
It makes it all rot down quite quickly - don't let it get too dry though

The poo doesn't take long to rot down, it's the bedding (usually wood shavings) that do.

Mine go in daleks that are constantly turned/emptied through the year.

Thank you all. you've answered my question. I'm going to go ask her later about it. I'm sure she'd be happy to get rid of it. she may have pile that's well rotted anyway to use. Many thanks fran.

Against popular advice, I just add it to the plot straight away. If i'm putting it around plants i just keep it away from the stems. I've had good results up til now so see no reason to change.
