    Is it too late to move my rhubarb?

    Evening all,

    I wish to move my rhubarb into the 'fruit' section of the plot but I was wondering if it is too late considering it is far from dormant?

    I think you have answered your own question Samuel. The best time to move it is when it is dormant.

      I moved mine in May last year. It recovered and made some growth during the summer, but only put out its first leaf this week. So it's definitely not happy yet.

        If you need to move it then do so. Water well (throughout the summer), and allow it to recover before cropping it (don't crop it this year, and possibly not next either if it struggles to recover this year).

        If you don't have to move it now then leave it until the Autumn - it will recover more quickly.

          I've had a spindly little rhubarb (think it's called strawberry something or other) It has produced 8 pencil thick stalks for the last few years. It is rubbish! But, it is alive and so deserves a chance and as it doesn't take up too much room, as it is ridiculously small i've left it. Though I moved it Sunday as it is in the way of a potential path. If it thrives good, if not, no great loss as it is rubbish!
          You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...


          I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!
