  • Ideas for Garden Club

Hello folks, I am looking for ideas for making up a program for a garden club, it will be held once a month, from September till May and able to pay transport and small fee for any speakers. We have acquired a projector which will allow us to give power point etc. presentations and its in the North Ayrshire area, any ideas and suggestions would be welcome Also looking for tips for economical/recycling gardening

    Thank
    Rary

What is the expected age group? Older retired people? Younger working parents/single people?

And the area? That would give you a starting place. Older people might be interested in gardening using No Dig methods, and other things that reduce the amount of physical work.
Younger time poor people might be interested in things that reduce the amount of time you need to spend year round - so how to plan your garden so that after you did the hard yakka it was a steady minimum of time to get the harvest.

Planning your garden - Plan what you want, then plan how to make it happen.

There are so many things on this forum about how to make things - from wildlife ponds to chook houses out of pallets and trampolines

You might want to separate some topics like flowers and veg growing. I put them all in together and discussing that is interesting. But there are people who just want to grow flowers (my daughter) and others who feel if you can't eat it then it's not worth giving space to it

Feral the average age of the group is quite young, mid sixties early seventies, and yes it is a mixed group re. what they grow, as some prefer flowers and others veg. but there is a lot knowledge that can be shared when someone has a gardening problem, and sharing knowledge with one another after all is what gardening should be about
