  • I'm Not Dead, Honest.....

    ......I'm not. Sorry

I have popped in and browsed a few times. I just didn't really have anything useful to say. My days have been filled with Thomas the Tank Engine, FB, and neurologists appointments.

      Sewings.....

I've never made a play tent before. I've cut out loads and I'm in the midst of making a girlified version just now. I've been very wobbly of late so the computer and sewing machine are keeping me sane, as I haven't been able to get out very much. A twenty minute trip to the shops exhausts me beyond belief.

Wish I was sowing Bren....the garden is a mess, still waiting for it to firm up enough to stand on. The water has disappeared but only an inch below the surface. If you stand on the lawn or stepping stones, it all bubbles up again.

Wish I had more cat-free window sills. All the cat-free ones are in the freezing cold rooms, where nothing will germinate.

Nice to see you, Jules, and to see what you've been up to. Lovely pic with cat-in-a-tent.

Do you have a cutter (Sizzix or GO!) for your letters? Outrageously neat blanket stitch - assume you've done it with the machine, but even so, that's quite a feat.

Applique stitch on the machine, Hazel, but all the letters are traced on to Bondaweb-backed fabric and cut out by hand with ludicrously sharp scissors. Turning sharp corners and curves is a bit tricky on the machine, but I'm quite a dab at it now.

Desmond is so funny with the tent. I took that pic yesterday when I was putting the finishing touches to the top (there are flags on the pole tops) and he got in and sat in the very middle. Little poser....

You can do blanket stitch on a machine!??? I never knew that! That's so useful.

My sewing machine is my Mum's, so at least 50 years old. Time I updated I think

Not on mine, sadly - my machine sounds like it's the same vintage as yours, MH. Can't justify the expense of a new one.

It comes in the same 'don't actually need, and it's coupla hundred quid' bracket as a gps watch for running and Kenwood for cooking.

Quite often you can get sewing machines, well known brands, in @ldi or L!dl for maybe £60, and they do a lot of the decorative stitches.

The good thing about mine is that it's highly expensive, but it was gifted to me (very grateful, I am too) and I can change with width and length of the pre-programmed stitches, making it easier to fit them onto an appliqué. The downside is that, should it ever go very wrong (touch wood etc etc etc), I have no hope of being able to fix/replace it.
