  • Anyone grown James Wong dahlia yams?

I bunged some in a few weeks ago and the currently look like this

Just wondering where to go from here really? Could really do with the windowsill room so can I garden them off and put them in the garden?

Mine are a little taller, and have a couple of sets of leaves now. I did have them on the kitchen windowsill, but they were straining for light, so had to put them on the living room windowsill. Rapidly running out of sill space! Mine won't be going out until I'm confident we've seen the last of the frosts, but I have a heap of other stuff I need to start sowing soon and the sills are full ...

How long did yours take to get a few sets of leaves? It feel like mine have been there for ages (in reality it's about 2 or 3 weeks)

The proper leaves weren't long after the first set to be honest. I think they've been in about 4 or 5 weeks ... but I could be wrong there. Give 'em time

I'm so impatient, I'm always tempted to pull things up to see if there's anything going on under the soil!

I took mine out of the window prop this weekend, and potted them up (along with queensland arrowroot and other stuff) .... no yams yet though

Have you grown them before? What are they like?

Has anyone grown these and tasted them? , all dahlias are edible ( tubers and petals ) do these taste any different?

I searched the net and found they are all edible so....

Ive just cooked and tasted a tuber that fell off one from a pack of mixed dahlias I bought today.....

Nothing wrong with it..... but nothing I would choose to eat!

If you search the site you will find a lot of people had trouble with James Wong's stuff last year.

That's a shame. I ordered them mainly for the flowers but the roots were added bonus. We shall see I guess...

First time for me. Although they're all edible, I believe there's only a few that are actually worth eating
