Yes it could be, the pictures are a bit small. Are the leaves rough and hairy? If so I would say it is.

Not certain, but I don't think it is, the veins look too pronounced.

ETA: then again it might be - just googled to remind myself and they could be....

Yes the leaves are kind of rough and hairy, and so is the stem.

It's growing just outside the gates to our plots, suppose the other way I could tell us to pick some, stick it in water, and see how smelly it becomes?

Try making a small amount of comfrey brew, if it stinks worse than a cess pit, it probably is comfrey

Will do, there's a bigger photo on FB, if your on there, for some reason won't upload to here from iPad, so had to upload from phone, and they are a bit small.

                Thank you.

looks like comfrey to me Dotty. If you chop up a fresh leaf, it should smell a bit like cucumber, in the same way that borage does.

I thought it looked more like borage, but either way it'll make good fertiliser

                      Not.

Comfrey isn't up yet, but blue alkanet is, and it's about 4" tall here today. Yours is green alkanet ~ you'll get a definite ID when it flowers

short info on alkanet here: http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/15694/alkanet

anything will become smelly if you steep it in water for a few weeks

White comfrey, that's unusual isn't it?
