  • Flower ID please

Any ideas what this plant is please?

They grew to about 6 feet tall with the flower head at the top and the flowers opened about Aug/Sept. Bees loved them, so although we have plans for that bed this year, we would love to retain some of them or move them elsewhere.

Think they are some sort of spreading rhizome as there was a great mat of roots that I peeled back off some slabs they were covering.

Was the best pic I could find on the interweb having searched using the words "tall yellow flowers garden plant". I did wonder if it was a goldenrod VC, but this got to 6 feet tall, didn't think they got quite that big...

It can grow tall. In my old house, there was some in the shrubbery that always grew about 5 feet tall. I think the tall shrubs behind them drew them up, plus they were very well fertilised with muck from the stables and the chicken house too!

Ah, wait, I've just googled and I think the one I had was Solidago gigantea, which grows up to 2 metres tall

                  And yet I adore "Yellow"

Funny as one's "Personal Perception" regarding colour, fluctuates between "Gardeners"

Golden Rod/Solidago. Hate it. But only because it took over a large area of my lovely old cottage garden, and was a PITA to keep digging out. If you have a large border, make the most of it!

I hated it 'cos it's brassy yellow too. Bloomin' hard to get rid of, it was.
