Fancy joining me in a bit of fun?

I've just pulled out a chitting Maris Peer Tattie, took an apple core to it & removed a plug, filled the plug with compost & transplanted an Outdoor Girl Tomato into the plug.

Victoriana Nurseries sell those, and my brother might be trying one in his garden this year

The tomtato is a graft and costs an arm and a leg. The Potomato can be yours for the price of a spud and a spare tom seedling. By my reckoning they'll both do equally well

Yeh, They've been out a while. Those are grafted mine are just introduced to each other..................There are a couple of reasons for me trying this. Firstly it's a space saving exercise but more importantly I want to see if I can grow the varieties of spuds & Toms that I want & not what is been offered..................anyway, it's only a bit of fun.

It's nice to see this co in NZ actually mention the varieties & are not just "A Cherry Tomato & a white Potato" as are described over here.

I shall give this a go as soon as I get going with my tomatoes.

It'll be a pink fir apple spud, so maybe I could hollow out an apple or a pine cone to put the potato in?

Interesting AllinContainers, I looked up the Victriana Nursery page on that (Tomtatoes - Tomatoes and Potatoes From The Same Plant) and they are selling theirs for £2.70 whereas T&M are selling theirs for nearly £15. Surely there must be a difference between the two with that price differential. Also, T&M claim theirs as an exclusive.

Any information on if the two plants are the same or use different technology?

And BigMally, keep us up to daye on how you get on with your version. Fascinating.

Will the two actually join, if you plant two different types of potato in the same container they don't become a marriage of the two. Won't you simply get the roots of the tomato spreading out around the spud, wouldn't it simply stunt the tomatoes growth?

I can understand the grafting process as that makes the graft a drain on the others resources, in this instance aren't you just making them fight for the same space and nutrients. Won't you end up with a weaker version of the two?

                              Like the name though...
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
