Thanks. I'll try. Could risk them in the GH?

If you have a greenhouse you can have salad leaves all year round. There are plenty of winter hardy types. Start them off indoors but once they germinate get them out into the greenhouse ASAP so you don't need to harden them off. Try again.
Trick is to sow quite a lot in late summer to give you plants for over the winter.

You could try cutting them down to the surface level and they may well re grow as stronger plants, as the daylight hours increase. Or those weak leaves may well die off anyway and new shoots take over.

If you cut them to surface level they will just die as they won't have anything to create energy to enable them to growth. You always get loads of lettuce seeds. I'd be inclined to bin and sow again in early March when there is better light.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'd be tempted to prick them out & plant them deep up to the leaves then pop them in the greenhouse.

I'd give it a bash. I sowed a tray of modules over a week ago. They've been up 3 or 4 days now. They're in the GH during the days and I bring them in at night. They're not getting leggy at all. They are Lidl mixed salad leaves.

I'd pot on deeper and resow.

I'd re-pot those that look like they'd make it, but the straggly ones would go on a sandwich.
