  • Parsnips

    Hi all,

How well do parsnips store? I've never bought them before (or grown them) but I've found a new love for them, unfortunately no one else in my house shares the love

I've just been forced to buy a full bag from little asda as I fancy abit of roast parsnip with tea

Anything I can do with them or in a cool dark place will they last for next weeks Sunday dinner? X

they are also nice mashed with potato,or indeed anything that mashes, soups,or simply freeze after you preped them, they will however, keep over winter in the ground, dig up as wanted, when they are home grown, just make sure if its frosty, you get some out prior,

I have read that you can store them in moist peat or vermiculite in boxes in a frost free shed.

Yeah if they're home grown but I wouldn't with shop bought cos you don't know how long they've been out the ground.

They'll be fine for a week. They are much like carrots they go floppy when stored too long but you should get a week or two no problem. I keep mine in the salad drawer of the fridge

I keep them in a paper bag, in the fridge, if room or in the veg rack. I've just finished some I bought cheap before Chr***mas. Same with carrots.

                    Make some Crisps!

I have some in the ground still, but I had a couple of bags that I could not resist at 10p supermarket reduction. I think I might have to have mash, roast, soup, crisp, chip, boil etc..............
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.
