  • Abbey crunch biscuits (just like Hobnobs) other oaty biscuits are available :)

I have just made these for my French teacher for part of her Christmas present and I thought I'd put this on here again for anyone who hasn't seen it before.

They are really lovely and are dead easy to make.

So... thank you again Hazel (and Helen) x

Makes 36 low-guilt biscuits or 24 cookie sized greedy biscuits

5oz Butter or Marg (I use ALDI cheap-seats butter - only 10p more than Stork marg and makes baking taste loads better)
5oz Sugar (I use whatever's to hand - normally granulated)
    1 tablespoon Milk
    1 teaspoon Bicarb of Soda
    1 teaspoon Golden Syrup
    5oz SR Flour
4oz Rolled Oats (I use jumbo organic rolled oats from Holland and Barrett - I think that they are Mornflakes)
    1. Cream butter and sugar
    2. Mix in milk, soda and syrup
    3. Stir in flour and oats and mix well
    4. Roll into small balls and put on greased baking tray
    5. Cook for 25 mins on gas 2 till golden
    6. Cool on wire rack

Oh, they sound lovely. I'm sure I've got most of the ingredients in the cupboard. Might try some tomorrow.

I wonder if this would work with granola?

Well they just went in the oven, it was a bit of a hotch potch, as I only had a packet of quakers golden syrup porridge oats and some strawberry granola (which I bashed with a rolling pin), so I adjusted the syrup and sugar in the recipe a touch and we'll see how they turn out.

I gave my fingers a lick after rolling into balls and it tasted yummy so I'm thinking they might be ok.

Turns out the golden syrup tin had been put back empty!! Still it may be a blessing in disguise as I sub'd it for Pure Maple Syrup and the smell from the oven is AWSOME! Am already planning on further batches with further tweakings - additions of dried fruit, nuts, choc chips, dried cranberries, crystalised ginger...Mmmmwwahahhaha!!

I won't deny if they turn out well, I'll be making some more, they do smell divine in the oven.

The proof will be in the tasting by DD if they get her seal of approval they'll defo be on the menu again. So simple to make it was ace, thanks Scarey55 and Hazel.

Oh my word, they are delish.

I would say I'm rubbish at making bicquits, but they are very hobnob ish. my batch made 29 minus 2, as 2 wouldn't fit on the cooling wrack so it really only made 27.....

                              I'll take a photo in a minute....
