  • Which variety of onion seed?

Hi, I've always grown from sets but want to try from seed next year so they will store better than my usual over-wintered Radars.
Can someone recommend good seed to try?
    Thanks a lot.

yups storage is an issue with overwintered onions. Red Baron is an excellent keeper if you like red onions which are very difficult to grow from sets without bolting but fairly easy from seed. I will be growing Vento and toughball for small "white" onions next year and Ailsae for the big uns..

Thanks AP. I'm looking for a medium + sized white onion so I'll look into Ailsae.
      Cheers

I tried Sturon seed last year from real seed.

I single sowed into small pots in mid January, at home on a window cill. I had a very good crop. However not a good onion for long storage through winter.

I am although converted to seed than sets because of a wider choice of variety and quality.

I have recently ordered Yellow Rynsburger from real seed described as ' one of the most grown onions in the UK, because it keeps so well '

Sounds good enough to me, what do you think AP?

Bedfordshire Champion did OK for me in the past...
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
