  • Fennel Glut!

So, I tried to grow fennel, and well, it worked! REALLY well! I've been rubbing the feathery bits on my dog - it's supposed to keep fleas away, but what on earth do I do with all the bulb-y bits?!! A couple are going to seed, so that I can collect fennel seeds for cooking with, but I've 'saladed' myself to death with it and wondered if anyone had any easy fennel recipes for something lovely. Now is also the time to tell you that i'm the only one out of us four that like the stuff (wish i'd found that out before I planted it all!)
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...

I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

    I understand!

I also planted a 'small' Fennel plant, the herby one rather than the one that makes a bulb. Its now at least 6 foot tall and tied to 2 canes, lovely yellow flowers and seeds! My plot will be covered in Fennel next year!

It is nice with fish, and pork and apparently you can use the seeds in bread!. But as yet I haven't done any more than cook it with fish.

If you google it, am sure you'll get lots of ideas.

Not sure what I was thinking of when I bought it,at a Garden Show!

Layer it with potato and onion (and maybe a dash of cream) - makes a wonderful dauphinois!
But take care, once one starts to bolt the rest soon follow!

Cut it into wedges, toss in olive oil, salt and pepper and roast or griddle. It freezes really well after cooking like this.

Put in risotto. When you're chopping your onion/carrot/celery base up just add chopped fennel too.
