  • Hello from Cambridge

Hi everyone, just popped in to introduce myself. I live in a small village just south of Cambridge with my Hubby, 2 dogs and 2 cats.
We have quite a large garden, 70ft x 150ft plus another bit which is 35ft x 100ft. Oh and a 70ft x 50ft drive. I grow veg and fruit mostly in raised beds as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis in about 80% of my joints. I've had quite a bit of me replaced over the past 30years, both knees, both elbows, 2 sets of knuckle joints, plus various fusions (bit like underpinning!), hence the Username .
On the drive I have a huge raised bed which started as a veg bed but is now almost completly strawberries and a fan-trained peach against the garage.
Out back there are 2 more (smaller) raised beds, one of which is devoted to asparagus. The other is for whatever takes my fancy, currently carrots, baby turnips and beetroot. Later it will hold my spring and collard greens.
I've a greenhouse, mainly for tomatoes and chillies, but also this year I'm trying Cuecamelons! Also I planted Tomatillos inside and trained them out through the louvres, they've gone mad and are setting lots of fruit.
I also grow french beans and squashes in pots on the patio, blueberries in a raised acidic bed and have a small 'orchard' right at the end of the garden with 5 apple trees, old varieties, a couple of pears and a plum tree.
Nearly forgot the 2 patio apples and sweet cherry, also in pots!
Got any coffee and cake, I'm exhausted just describing that lot!
Would you like to see photos?

                          Bionic photos!

That's better. So, 1st batch, the driveway with raised bed and peach fan. Then round to the patio, lots of pots and my favorite loungers!. Next, looking down the garden, past the greenhouse and a peek inside.
2nd batch is the bottom half of the garden with fruit cage and apple/pear trees, then to finish my shady woodland patch with another seat under an old Goat Willow.

Most of these, I must admit, were taken a couple of years ago. I will take some more recent ones to show you what I'm growing now.
Hope you like them, I'm enjoying looking at others peoples too!

                            Hi Barb,

Wow what a beautiful garden you have, and so well kept! I'm assuming you have help as I'd struggle maintaining that & I don't have such a painful illness.
                            Do you get many peaches?
I'm growing cucamelons too, I've put a recipe for pickling them on here somewhere if you're interested?
This year I'm into ornamental gourds!

                            P.S. Sid someone mention cake?

Hi Funky. Yes I do have help in the garden. As well as my Hubbie, who does mostly lawns and watering, I have a lovely local lad who comes in once or twice a week for a couple of hours. I'va also got auto watering systems for the greenhouse and thesmall raised beds.
I've already pickled a jar of cucamelons using the recipe in James Wongs book. We'll have to compare notes.
The iPhone app sounds interesting, I'll have to get that!
We're off to the Highlands tomorrow to visit my sister and the family up in Beauly. I'll catch up with the forum on Monday. Gosh there's a lot of threads, don't quite know where to start (apart from here!).
                              Have a good weekend.
