hi i have 3 girls, i have kept chickens for a number of years now, the 3 girls are about 3 years old, my question is the dreaded RED MITE i have been invaded by them.
i had this problem a few years ago and managed to get rid of them, but this time i am really struggling, i have been washing the house with poultry shield and then when it's dry sprinkling Diatom every where, the chickens i have put 2 drops of ivermectin on the back of the chickens neck, how often do i put the drops on the chickens neck for, do i repeat after 5 days or wait a full week. i can't remember what i did last time, any advice on getting these horrible things out of the chicken house would be great.
    thank you.

You will find lots of info on here on the sticky thread about mites above. Personally I think P.S is rubbish, and I find creosote the absolute best there is for rapid kill and prevention. Diatom is good, you need to be very liberal with it, chucking it all over the hen house and particularly in the nestboxes and rub the birds from head to toe in it. Also remove any roofing felt you have on the house, it is a haven for mite, and replace with onduline or similar.
