New to veg growing . Have been growing potatoes now for 2 years and have tried various types which are supposed to stay whole when cooked . So far no joy this year charlotte same thing cooked for only 14 mins just till soft and most of the skins broke down and started to go to mash. Can somebody suggest a type or two for next year . Thanks

    Steam them instead of boiling.

I just scrubbed some Kestral, and put them in with chicken to roast, lovely!

I've given up on Charlotte. I find Juliette holds together better. Having said that the crop was poor this year but I think that was lack of water at the crucial time.

I have grown Lady Christl for a number of years, very tasty. This year I grew Red Duke of York for the first time following a recommendation from the vine, again a good tasty spud.

I do tend to dig up my spuds a couple of days before I need them and find this helps stop them going to slush.

Lady crystal for me too. We steam ours in the rice cooker. Thinking of growing nothing but these next year, so nice.
Tried the red duke of York too pots but they came out all rough skinned, weird.
