  • Potato grow sacks

Wondering if anyone can recommend 'cheap potato grow sacks' , my sister has had a disaster growing potatoes in her garden in Scotland, she's not very mobile, so I suggested potato sacks, but she says they are very expensive.

Can you get cheap ones, where, and are they any good.

You could use compost bags, turn them inside out so that they look black (only for appearance sake ). Stab a few holes in them for drainage. Then roll the top down half way to plant up, and roll the sides up as you earth up.
    Does that make sense

You can get cheap potato sacks. I got one from one of the pound shops, cant remember which one, and it worked fine. Problem was when emptying the bottom had rotted away off so only able to use once, was expecting/hoping it to last longer. Probably going to look at some other form of container, might try VC suggestion of compost bags.

One thing I did find was that I needed to water the sack grown ones more then the ones I have in the ground. If your sister has limited mobility then she would benefit from having easy access to water.

I agree with VC. Potatoes will grow in anything that will hold the compost so why on earth pay for grow sacks. I've used old compost bags and even a cardboard box...just to prove that it works, and it does.
