  • Spaghetti squash plant heading for 8ft tall?

    Hi all,

I've got a spaghetti squash plant from the seeds that came with the magazine a while back. It's climbing up a bamboo cane. It's now over 7ft tall and heading for 8ft within the next week or so. It's also throwing shoots sideways at ground level.

My question is: it is only showing a couple of potentially viable squash. Should I try and stop it growing any bigger so more energy goes into the formation of the squash?

    Many thanks,

    Stan

I often cut the side shoots off all my squash just to keep them under control (I grow them on the flat) and usually stop the plant once four good fruit have formed. I will be this year as they are very late.
They are in a 6m x 1.5m bed and they will happily do two circuits of the bed given a chance!
Hope this helps - no doubt someone who sends them up poles will be along soon with more advice.
