When is the best time to plant swede and is it hard to grow? every other tip on how to grow swede would be good too pleas guys

I tend to sow my swedes direct as I don't find any advantage in module sowing (enough other things that I have to to get a crop). The main reason I grow them is for a winter crop, if it's just the taste you're after then you would probably still get a crop of turnips as they taste pretty much the same but are quicker growing (and sadly tender). I don't think kohl rabi is quite the same but again quick growing and tender.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Maybe getting a bit late but I'm going to sow some more swede next week in modules, or that's the plan. Can't direct sow as I'm waiting for a bit of space for them. Earlier sowings have done really well so far, it look like they will be hoooge
Swedes are quite easy and seem to just get on and grow although slugs gave them a bit of a bashing earlier on. Variety I'm planning on sowing is new to me, Invitation and according to the packet can be sown in July

Folks, does anyone know of a swede that doesn't taste like turnip? I sowed Friese Gele this year and although it's cropped well, I can't bear the taste. This all goes back to a bumper crops of Milan Purple Top turnips three years ago. I ate a lot and became totally averse to them!

The taste will alter with the soil it's grown on - I can grow it here - but the same variety had a much stronger taste on my previous patch.Comment
