  • What's eating my brassicas?

I am sure this is a pretty simple question for those in the know, but it is my first year with brassicas and I want to know what is doing this damage? I this slugs/snails or caterpillars, or something else? Thanks in advance.

Pigeons love brassicas so if I was you I'd net them.

Slugs, snails or pigeons. Clue = the damage is round the edge of the leaves. Caterpillars tend to eat from where they hatch, making holes in the middle of the leaves.

Thanks peeps - I knew pigeons were a problem but didn't realise that was how the damage looked. We certainly have plenty in our garden so I will net them today.

I'd net mine too if I could catch the buggers.

No, usually they just leave the ribs behind, no leaves at all. Bladdy things. I blame oilseed rape: it's supporting vast numbers of woodpigeons

Perhaps we should eat more of them? They go nice with cabbage.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.
