Caterpillar Devastation!

I have never seen anything like this before!

Having spoken to some other people on the allotments (which are worryingly close to this infestation) apparently this is the second or third year this has happened...

They just seem to be working their way along the shrubs! They don't seem to like the raspberries though!

Does anyone know what sort of caterpillar they are?
