  • so who wears glasses?

so I finally got some glasses sorted out but its weird! I'm not sure if my glasses are right. Even though everything looks amazingly clear but if I look out the edges when I move my head the ground kind of moves and walking in them I feel slightly unbalanced.

Are they bifocal or single lense glasses or varifocal?

I got two new pairs through the post today and was saying the same thing earlier.

If it is really bad, get the prescription rechecked.

I don't wear them anymore (lasered)
but I remember when I first got glasses 30 odd years ago, it took me a long, long time to get used to them.

The edge distortion is because the lens is curved and lens have distortion at the edges, spherical aberation being the main. They cut/grind lens to a spherical shape but a sphere is not the best. Effectively the light entering the lens at the edge is bend more then from other bits of the lens and things just look sort of bent.

Getting your balance is because they will either brings objects apparently closer or further, will not be a lot but the brain has to get used to the new/different information it is now getting. Until you get used to them your feet will seem to be either too close or too far away.

Easiest thing is just to go out and wear them, the brain will relearn fast.

Wow cheers kirk, what you described is absolutely the same as what I am experiencing.

                  Thanks to the others too.

                  Ps. I have single lens.

I would love to have laser surgery on my eyes so that I didn't have to wear glasses for reading and close work but apparently I'm not suitable because I'm ancient. I asked about it a few years ago and I was told that I had the wrong kind of bad eyesight for laser surgery. Typical.
I now wear those cheap reading glasses you can get from chemists and the supermarket.
I really should go to the opticians but the last specs I got were varifocals andI couldn't get used to them so never wore them. That was such a waste of money!

Everytime I got new glasses I used to trip over my own feet whilst walking for a week or so. In fact, if I had to walk fast early on I'd take the glasses off while I got from point a to point b.

Haven't had the problem with my last glasses as they weren't multifocal, but this new pair - wow, was in the auditorium in the half dark, with stairs next to me, someone just had to push past while I was gathering up my gear, and I couldn't work out where to put my foot! Drunk at work at 10.30 am!
Almost used to them again now, just occasionally do I look not quite sober

Don't be too upset about that, I've had laser eye surgery twice, because the first time didn't work properly and the second time it was horrendously painful with agonising pain every night for a year after. And yes, two years later I'm back to glasses for driving and TV. So well done on being able to save your cash.
