What's the soil like that they're in? Is it very wet? I know we've had a lot of rain/snow and pretty much everywhere is wet, but, if you take a trowel full of soil up, does it leave a puddle? Garlic doesn't like very wet soil, so it may be that causing a problem, but a few dry days (or even weeks!) would help.

If the soil isn't very wet, then they may want a bit of a feed; a few chicken manure pellets sprinkled around them perhaps.

Hi. The soil is ok I think. When I dig a fork depth it's evenly moist and not soaked. I spread some onion fertiliser round them when about 5" high. I will be planting onions right along side but was worried about them passing a Desiese on.

Yeah I'm in north east England. We've had a lot of wet weather up here as well. So maybe that's why the leaves are turning yellow perhaps?

They are ok. It is true they don't like the ground being very wet but your ground is acceptable and will dry out more later as the season advances. The yellowing is not a lack of nutrients and is nothing to worry about with garlic. In fact yours seems to be very well advanced compared to mine. Iv'e attached a photo of mine and you will see some evidence of yellowing too but as I said - worry not.

Mine yellow like that every year, doesn't seem to affect the final product

Putting some sand into the planting hole helps with the water issue.

I thought there was something wrong with them and didn't want it to spread to my onions :-)

if there was something transmittable, the damage would already be done

The garlic farm reckon they need a lot of water in the final bulb up month.
