Just spoken to a friend who lives near an Aldi and I asked him if he'd seen fruit trees on sale - he says they're there today and he saw several people buying them. He did offer to buy some for me but he's a clueless gardener
    Better get there early folks

If anyone wants to know the varieties (maybe you can read it on the website, but I can't!):

Pears: Williams' Bon Chrétien and Conference (not 100% sure it was Conference)
            Apples: Gala, Cox and Bramley
            Plum: Victoria
            Greengage: Reine Claude Ulena
            Apricot: Early
Peach: (I can't remember what the variety was)
            Cherry: Morello
Raspberries (didn't look at the variety... they're not trees Aldi! can't fool me)

The Raspberries will be Tulameen & Autumn Bliss.
The Peach will be Red Haven if last year is owt to go by.
Remember that Morello Cherrys are sour.......Stella are sweet.

I want to train a couple of trees along the fence, so obviously don't want ones that will grow enormous, that's all

I went and bought 4, I think now I have an orchard! I bought a peach, a pear, a cherry and an apricot. The new plot already has plenty of apple, 2 plums and a fig. Some of the trees were pretty big, seems good value for money. Next thursday they have loads more gardening stuff. Half tempted by the cold frame.

I posted something about this about a week ago on another thread.

Pears: Williams' Bon Chrétien and Conference (not 100% sure it was Conference)
Yeah, they look a bit vigorous to be Conference. The rootstock may be different I guess, I wish the one I'd bought last year would have been as impressive as the ones I saw today.

                        Apricot: Early
It doesn't sound like a varietal name, 'Large early' is a variety but 'early' could just refer to ripening. But I don't like Apricots anyway so don't care.

Peach: (I can't remember what the variety was)
Red haven and I bought one myself. It's in a large pot and in the shed until the weather picks up.

As for other fruit, I already have an apple (Elstar), Pear (Conference), Plum (Victoria), Cherry (Morello) from the last two years. Common varieties, but common because they're reliable (even if nothing special).

There were 4 peach trees and I took what looked to be the best one. I'm going to train it as a fan against a south facing wall.
Apparently it has some resistance to peach leaf curl which is the main disease affecting them in the UK (it thrives in damp conditions below 19c - Britain is its perfect habitat).
