    Hired a skip :)

    There was Loads of junk around the allotment when I went up the other day (previous owners) and it annoyed me that my plot had so much crap left in it and it was on my mind to hire a skip!

    However at £80 for a week my wife said it was a bit steep well the cunning cat that I am I bought new living room furniture so I dropped a hint that we could just hire a skip instead of driving the 12 miles (24 round trip) to the nearest tip to dump the old stuff!

    So now a skip is being delivered on Monday morning killing two birds with one stone were going to gut the whole house, garden, shed and most importantly the allotment

    I'm now one happy boy all in time to have a nice plot with two greenhouses when they arrive

    Even more cunning - get the old stuff onto freecycle and start putting all the rubbish into your wheely bin over the next few weeks.

      The rubbish is all to big for the wheelie bin if I could I would I hate spending money up the plot I have about 9 - 10 big sheets of rotting wood a cut up tree and loads more I have disposed of what I could through black bags and recycling things from the garden include a rusty old garden heater a broken (beyond repair bench) just crap really so skip is the most viable option

            Hehe I tried and I have put ads in the local shop for fire wood enough is enough it has to go

              I'd never get rid of wood - at the very least I'd borrow a shredder and use it for paths.

              I've just this minute put a bid in for some freecycle wood round our way. Would fire up the wood burner for months!

                I had a similar problem when I moved plot last year. There was so much junk including rotting wood that the tip was the best option for me. I didn't feel too guilty as it is only about 1.5 miles away and goes in a separate recycling container anyway so not contributing to landfill. I got to know the men up there very well. Trouble was our car was in the garage at the time and I had a brand new courtesy car from the garage for several weeks. I did hoover it well before giving it back but I reckon the next person to have it would have found allsorts of creepy crawlies.

                  a neighboring plot to mine was full of rubbish left from previous owners , when a new chappy took it on the council supplied a couple of skips free of charge

                    Holly chap I've been down that route and I got a big fat no tried it as soon as I got the plot there response was for me to give the plot up eeerrrrrrrr I think not

                        A good de-clutter session can be quite uplifting. Mr.G actually 'mucked-out' his Landy this morning. Came back in with a smile, when I was expecting a scowl!

                        Old metal gets stacked, then taken to the scrap man, as do batteries and anything else worth any money. (We must both have some pikey blood!) As for wood, I'm with Zaz, we have an open fire, so any timber gets chopped, dried and bunged on the fire. Furniture or not! I did have to draw the line at the old telegraph pole he cut up, though!

                          I've just got rid of two sofas, I contacted the Wales Air Ambulance and they came and collected them. They sell them on and proceed go to a good cause, win win all round.
