  • Sweetcorn Question.

Hi Can anyone tell me if it is ok to grow 2 F1 varieties of sweetcorn on my allotment this year ? I would grow them in seperate blocks, but I am unsure about the possibility of cross pollination, and whether it can effect things, the varieties I wanted to compare were Swift & Lark. Thanks.

Well travellers I wasn't too sure on an answer to your question either, so I've looked back on some previous posts and other members have said it is fine to grow 2 F1 sweetcorn varieties together

It's not advisable to grow two supersweet/sweet varieties together, as it can make the corn bitter. However, I haven't looked at the two types your growing..

i think you are better off keeping them as far apart as possible did read some where they can cross pollinate better to be safe than sorry

Growing swift and lark should be OK as they are the same type being both tendersweets. Lark is later than swift to produce pollen and they may not produce at the same time.

I grew Lark F1 in 2012, and I selected it specifically because it didn't care about cross-pollination. And indeed, whatever nextdoors sweetcorn was, it didn't appear to affect it - it was fantastic
