  • Mooli?

I was looking to try some Mooli, I found Radish - Long White Icicle on ebay advertised as Mooli? Is that right?

While I'm on, has anyone grown Runner Bean - Hestia, are they worth growing? do you get a decent crop off them? In what size pot would I need to grow them? Thanks

If you want mooli look for Daikon radish tropicalfruitandveg.com | About Mooli
I think long white icicle radishes are just - longish, white radishes (as opposed to round red radishes!).
    Don't know about Hestia

I have grown mooli, once, last year was a no no with the weather,it's taste is a strong peppery radish, with large long roots, bigger than a carrot, and a creamy white,a friend of ours loved it,he was eating it like an apple lol,the foliage is like a carrot,i did some in a stir fry,and some in salad, baisicly,if you like a radish, you will like mooli, and VC is correct about it being just a white common radish, the moole is oriental, you will usually find it within that section of seeds,

Aren't Hestia a dwarf bean? Think I grew them once and wasn't impressed as the crop was low but I don't do dwarfies much as I find that I'm better growing upwards so the extra height of the normal tall varieties is better, especially if you have no space.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm more confused now, according to wikipedia, long white icicle is daikon, but mooli is a chinese radish? Either way, I've already bought it so I'm growing it this year

Yes Alison, Hestia is a dwarf runner bean for patio pots. I've had some beans for a couple of years, but when it comes to sowing time, they always get pushed to the back of the pile

I've bought long white icicle radish and runner bean hestia too. I normally grow upward with beans but it's good to experiment isn't it?

I've grown both - the mooli went to seed and the hestia beans tend to lay on the ground, so they get eaten before you get a chance to pick them. However they maybe better in pots???

I think - and I may well be wrong - that long white icicle are summer radish and mature within a few weeks whilst Mooli are in the ground for much longer and not sown until summer. They're more like a long hot turnip than a radish!!!

long white icicle is the radish i grow most of there a summer radish which grows 3 maybe 4 inch long with an exellent nutty flavour . mooli i grew once they will grow to the size of a standard cucumber 12"plus in length you can buy them fresh in most asian supermarkets keep meaning to grow them again will have to locate some seeds

Ancee - thanks very much, that's very kind of you. I'll have a few seeds please but I don't need many. Are there any seeds you are looking for or should I send you a SAE? I'll PM you my address.
