  • 10 reasons why...

    ...gardening is good for you.

    1. It's an escape from work and domestic chores. It may be tiring but it's not stressful.

    2. You get emotional satisfaction from the growth of plants you have nurtured.

    3. You can feel like a child again. When were you last allowed to get dirty? if you're female, probably at the age of five, if you're male, when you played rugby.

    4. Physical exercise and fresh air calm the mind.

    5. You are in control and make the rules, what you plant is your decision.

    6. It's creative - your design, your colours.

    7. It's sensual - colours, textures, scents, tastes.

    8. It's peaceful (hopefully), you can think and meditate in calm and quiet.

    9. Retail therapy - garden centre shopping is as satisfying as any other kind.

    10. You can produce organic veg with wonderful flavours - very impressive at dinner parties.

    11. You can live in tune with nature, listen to birdsong, watch the leaves emerging, maturing and falling,
watch the sunrise and sunset and feel the warmth of the sun on your skin and the rain on your head.

If you've got them - I've nuked the slugs with nematodes so often I hardly see one now, and my growing area is small enough to net everything that might get caterpillars, the odd ones that make it through are taken by wasps or birds.

20 to sow a tiny seed, get exited at being mum again, watch it grow, nurturing it all the way to adulthood, then the sheer pleasure the taste buds get from the flavor, and thats only 1 little seed,

21 just looking at what you and nature have achieved

22 that cup of something or other and a meal at the lottie,no gardening needed,
