  • Are You On The Commitee?

The reason i ask you see is.........

i'm having a little trouble with a plot holder.

as the chair i often have to be quite diplomatic and an intermediary.

recently one of our plot holders has become a bit of ..... well quite a lot of you don't want to do it like that do you type of person.

has plenty to say and more than a pennies worth of thoughts on anything the commitee do on site to continue our growth and developement.

he has started to poison the mind of one of our newest members and you can tell that they are being pressured into complaining "on behalf of a plot holder"

so i did the decent thing and invited him onto the commitee as developement special advisor..

he didn't want any of that so i just told him to put up or shut up we all give our time for no reward..
he then said thats not true you all take some payment all commitee's do.. and i've told other plotholders you do.

see me step back before i explode...........

so what should i do now?
this will be a battle from the heart

Don't really know the remit of committees as (thankfully) we don't have one - not sure I could cope with the stress . Anyway, do you do newsletters or anything like that? If so, can you write an article explaining how the committee works and maybe include a frequently asked questions section with answers to questions such as "If I join the committee, will I get paid?", "How much time would I need to give up?" etc etc. Don't mention this idiot but just set the record straight.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

How about a horses head, I've heard they can be quite successful.

I'm not overly keen on our committee, we've had one since May, they have introduced a few rules which are to say a little annoying. When you visit our site now you have to unlock and relock the gate behind you. We live in a very rural community, personally I think this is a bit overkill, I've never heard of a single plotholder losing produce.

        What are they upset about?

Are the rules to cover the issue?

When i was on the committee on our site the only ones that received any kind of payment was the Chairman and the Treasurer they received there plots rent free
Other members of the committee received 10% of in the site shop the only way to get people to join the committee '
A lot of people just want to cultivate there plots so this was the only way to encourage plot holders to join jacob

do you have a AGM,if so,ALL moneys got in and gone out,are accounted for,if so give them another copy in large print,if not where do they think you get the money for said payouts, why not have a site meeting, stating that there is a rhumour going around, and causing a lot of unheathy thoughts on site, anyone with any issuses please attend,or shut up,and the person with the gripe must attend to face you personaly, and officcialy,to have it out, then if he not accept, give him the push, for causing trouble, that hopefully will shut him up,if he is given the push, let him take it further,as long as you can back up your side,no bother, fact is 1 thing, rhumouse are another, and are a slander on you,

Do you have a site noticeboard? You could put up the Committee constitution, Rules & regs, accounts (or whatever you have) and any benefits (monetary or otherwise - or that there are None) that committee members receive. Openness and transparency! Any argument - point to the Noticeboard - then show him where his bike is

We're a self managed site & I'm secretary (mustve been mad!!!!)... anyway the officers or committee dont get anything in the form of payment or otherwise (unless you count a cup of coffee at the meetings)

We've had a member trying to stir things up & cause unrest - we put a newsletter together with lots of bits of information & something about the 'problem' but quite generically so no names or anything.

As VC suggests our rules & constitution are on the notice board and all newcomers are asked to read them & we've just started emailing them with the application form so people have them early.

We're also thinking about putting a 'welcome' leaflet together so things are clear from the outset.

I like Alison's idea If the logistics of sending out a newsletter to all plotholders is a bit complicated, do it as a poster/notice that everyone will see on the way in.

you know you can always rely on a grape for good information.

i have already used one or two of the suggestions but this is the sort of person its sometimes dificult to placate without blatantly offending.

i asked the new member who he seems to be targeting if he'd asked him about payment but he hasn't directly.

thanks grape i will soldier on and use one or two of the other tips

                    regards

and if you don't already do a newsletter, start one up. Communication is the name of the game
