  • Asparagus

I have started to grow asparagus for the first time this year. I planted the crowns early in the year and I have left the asparagus untouched as recommended by the seller. All of the crowns have produced growth, do these growths eventually die off like rhubarb for example or do I need to cut them down. Any advice will be gratefully accepted

Once the ferns have turned yellow cut them down to an inch or two above the soil. Mine are still a bit green but everything is late this year.

As Solway Cropper says, cut them right down to the ground when they go yellow, and topdress the bed with well rotted manure or compost. You could cut them back now if you want to tidy up.
